Poivre Électrique

Atelier Cologne

ABOUT THE FRAGRANCE

Released in 2016, Poivre Électrique is a pepper-led woody-spicy Atelier Cologne composition. Reference note listings place black and pink pepper with bitter orange at the opening, olibanum, pimento and Turkish rose at the heart, and cedar, myrrh and sandalwood in the base.

OUR TAKE

Pink and black pepper dominated so strongly that the fragrance almost made me want to cough. I thought there might also be frankincense and rose underneath, but the pepper made it difficult to appreciate.

On the positive side, the drydown gave me one of the clearest cedar/pine impressions I had encountered, with a birch- or smoke-like facet in the background. I even wondered whether it might be useful as a layering fragrance. With less pepper, I think I might have liked it.
